My work focuses on place in the landscape; how memories and the environment shape us. My paintings are autobiographical. I paint the landscapes I live/have lived in. I like to understand these locations in their historical context. These include landscapes of Donegal, Ireland and Wales: South Wales (including Gower) and Mid Wales. The main street of Ardara is dotted with cafes, bars and wool/tweed shops because this is a centre of the dyeing and weaving of Donegal wool. Ardara people are very friendly and welcoming. The villages in the south of Donegal are a lot more colourful than the ones in the northern part where white seems to be more in fashion

Original paintings of three Gower villages by Emma Cownie – Landimore, Llanrhidian and LLanmadoc.

Three original paintings of Donegal – one from Arranmore and two of Rossbeg

We are back in South Wales and have been getting out and about taking photos, especially with a drone. This will help enhance composition in my landscape paintings of the Gower Peninsula.
