Ardara – One of the best (and most colourful) villages in Ireland !

Ardara – One of the best (and most colourful) villages in Ireland !

The main street of Ardara is dotted with cafes, bars and wool/tweed shops because this is a centre of the dyeing and weaving of Donegal wool. Ardara people are very friendly and welcoming. The villages in the south of Donegal are a lot more colourful than the ones in the northern part where white seems to be more in fashion

Getting Above it All

Getting Above it All

We are back in South Wales and have been getting out and about taking photos, especially with a drone. This will help enhance composition in my landscape paintings of the Gower Peninsula.

My Gravatar Profile Emma Cownie

Emma Cownie

Born in Hereford, educated in Whitely Bay, Gloucester, Cardiff and London, I am a professional contemporary artist. I have also lived in Donegal, Derry, and currently in Swansea (again). My work focuses on place in the landscape and their historical context. I also explore how light can focus attention on fleeting moments. By documenting the shadows cast in bright sunshine or by night time street lamps, I seek to catch a moment. I have found myself drawn to and influenced by painters who have a special relationship with colour and light; such as American realists Edward Hopper, Rockwell Kent, Fairfield Porter and British painter David Hockney. I am also drawn to the bold colours and simplified forms of Modern American painters such as Lois Dodd, Jessica Brilli and Mitchel Johnson.
