Oil on linen canvas, 40 x 50 cm, unframed
Coach houses on Academy Road, Derry. These stables/garages belong to the very grand and beautiful period houses on Crawford Square. You can see the roofs and chimneys of these larger buildings above those of the coach houses. I loved the colours of the doors and the shadows in the thin winter light.
Crawford Square was named for the man who built them, Samuel L Crawford, in the 1870s. These were built for the merchant and professional classes of the city. Read more about the history of the buildings of Derry here.
