Down to the Rusty Nail

Down to the Rusty Nail Painting Inishowen Peninsula

An acrylic painting on linen canvas.

Unframed

24″x18″ /  61x45cm

The raised beach at Ballyhillin at Malin Head. This a unique raised beach system of international scientific importance. Also known as Portmór or Kitters Beach. This is one the Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal.

Malin Head is the most northern point of mainland Ireland, and a familar name to listeners of the BBC Shipping Forecast. Here the winds are strong even on a clam and sunny day. The Atlantic Ocean  impresses with its massive, heaving form. This is as remote as it gets. This is on the far edge of Western Europe. Further north lies the Hebrides and Iceland. To the west, North America.
