Arranmore Swansong

Gortgar,Arranmore (Donegal)

We have been living with a lot of uncertainty since summer last year. This is why I have found it difficult to write regularly. Last summer, Biddy, our aged Collie-cross was so frail I didn’t come to Donegal with her. I didn’t think the long bumpy car journeys would be fair on her. The vets are an hour away. She was pts in November last year. It was an honour to look after her in her final days and I still miss her. I will write about Effie in a separate post, soon.

It is with a heavy heart that I say that we are planning to leave Donegal. It’s a difficult place to live without family near by. It’s a stunning place and the recent sunshine has really highlighted that. It is possibly the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen and I will be very sad to leave. I am not entirely sure where we are going. I will let you know when we know.

In the meantime, I have painted a series of small paintings of Arranmore Island.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about Biddy – dogs become so much of us, don’t they? And also sorry that you’re moving on again. I hope you soon find a happy new place.

  2. Dogs, cats, I love them all. She was the most recent of pet deaths. We have lost 4 since moving here.

  3. No, I got that wrong, it has been 5. Two dogs and three cats. Each one has broken my heart a bit more.

    1. That’s so tough for you. All those losses. I hope that this is the last one now for a while

      1. So do I! Thank you for your good wishes, Ceri.

    1. Thank you, Sarah. I will need it. Selling & moving house is incredibly stressful. It’s worse when its in a jurisdiction that you are not all that familiar with.

  4. Wishing you all the best with the nuts and bolts of moving, Emma! (Yes, I am back in blogland, catching up with everyone and hoping that I can stay, this time!)

    1. Lovely to hear from you, Hilda. Everything in my life is chaos at the moment. I am not sure when I will be back in blogland again myself!

      1. Yeah, I have been having a LOT of lessons in the chaos of life, myself, these past few months! I hope it all calms down for you – soon – so you can settle in to whatever your ‘new normal’ will be (and also get some painting done, of course! I tend to judge my level of sanity by how much painting I’m getting done as it really does make me feel much more centered – I would imagine that would be true for YOU too, and then some, as you are usually a highly productive painter (and blogger!!!)) Wishing you all the best and that you don’t have to live chaotically for too long, Emma!

  5. I’m very late coming to this post but want to add my best wishes – I hope you have found somewhere new …..

    1. Hello Marie, Thank you. No. Things are still undecided. The crazy houses prices in Ireland/Northern Ireland have have left us unsettled, as yet. We are looking further afield but that comes with its own complications!
