New York, New York!
I am delighted to say I have just SOLD this oil painting “Umbrella Flowers” via Artfinder.
It is now going to be living in New York, New York, USA
“An expressionist oil painting of some cow parsley flowers craning their necks to the sun to catch a fragment of some nourishing summer light as it peeks and shoots through the trees and bushes in the background. I love the way cow parley catches the light in it’s lacy petals. It’s delicacy the very expression of summer calm and heat. They seem to stretch their flowery fingers to the sun in exaltation. In praise of summer.”
Fresh October Morning

This oil painting returns to Gower for inspiration. The area painted is further upstream from the earlier “Ilston” series”. I wanted to paint more of an expanse behind the trees and brook to give a heightened expression of that fresh, crisp, nose tingling feeling of early morning in late October.
The background morphed into burnished orangy-purple hills, perhaps unconsciously inspired by the rustic settings and autumnal colouring of the “Group of Seven” paintings and Tom Thomson in particular. I want the viewer to gasp, full lunged, the fresh air when viewing this painting.

“Returning again to paint one of my favourite views and areas of Mid Wales, that of The Black Mountains in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
This is a scene of the fleeting sun light through the clouds, brushed by the evening’s sunsetting colours of pinky oranges, purply pinks, turquoise, steely blues and mauve, as we look at evening light as it catches the Sugar Loaf and Table Mountain in the distance.”

…Before Buying
Delighted to say I have just SOLD this oil painting “Weighing it Up”” via Artfinder !!
This Hopperesque painting is of the fish market at the Hayes entrance to Cardiff Market. I have always loved the glaring artificial light above this fish stall. It creates some lovely colours and a pleasing depth of field. The fishmonger weighs his goods while the customer deliberates on what to have next, hence the tile “Weighing it Up”
Art is an Ongoing Conversation

Delighted to say I have just SOLD “Gorse Farm” and “Suncatchers” via Artfinder !

These paintings are from two years ago and illustrate how much my style as changed in that time.
Some artlovers seem to like or even prefer this simple, looser style.
Art style I find is constantly involving or it stagnates. I find I need to constantly evolve as an artist, set myself new challenges and explore new directions and styles.
Art is a constant conversation between the medium and myself, an ongoing discussion, an ongoing voyage of discovery.
