Taxi!

Taxi From Uplands (SOLD)

A new painting -“Taxi from Uplands” – An evocative night time oil painting of Uplands, an inner city area in Swansea with a taxi parked, facing the wrong way, in the middle of the road. It’s main dipped head light blares white down the shiny jet black road and intermingles with back-light reds and street-light amber and LED silvery white. They all seem to wash and stream down the wet city road with the rain.

Swansea from Mumbles

Swansea from Mumbles

Delighted to say I have just SOLD this lovely oil painting “Swansea from Mumbles” direct from my Art gallery and via a visit from the buyers to my art website at emmafcownie.com – great how artlovers are now contacting me directly to buy artwork.  The collectors are from Swansea originally and will have a lovely reminder of Swansea on the walls of their home in Wiltshire, in the West country to remind them of home. They are also collecting the painting personally which will give us a chance to enjoy each other’s company again. The best thing about selling direct is getting to know very interesting people who love one’s work. It is a much more personal and rewarding experience for both parties. Plus if art lovers make the effort to buy art this way, I am more inclined to reduce the price to reward that effort.

Rainbow Wood – A woodland painting

017

Delighted to say I have SOLD this oil painting Rainbow Wood Revisited” via Artfinder to a delightful collector of my art work and whose support I greatly appreciate!

“This is another refractionist/cloissionist painting where I attempt to break down the light streaming through the leaves of the trees in to blocks of colours. My painting has two prominent motifs which are to 1. create or animate light via my use of colour or 2. conversely, to break down light into component colours, in order to show light being ‘refracted’ through different materials, such as the leaves of the trees in this painting. The wood floor is illuminated by the light and I wanted to create an effect of movement of colour sliding along the ground and also sweeping, almost windswept across the trees like colour on the wind.
I like that pre-perceptual fleeting moment before our brains ‘construct’ images before colours and light are burnt into conscious representation. I love woods and trees because they capture the light in many ways and translate this light into numerous colours, too many to paint. I attempt to catch that fleeting fluidity, that becoming an image, not fully formed, more sensation than perception. I hope this vibrancy recreates that feeling of awe we feel in nature’s beauty, before our brains explain it away. To return to the fluent, heart-filled child-like wonder that sometimes ossifies with age.”

A Woodland Reflection

This oil painting is of Ilston Cwm and the bridge, over The Killy Willy, leading to Parkmill. I have painted this bridge in a number of paintings previously sold on Artfinder but this is the first painting from underneath the bridge.

What a spectacular scene there is under bridges as the sun lights the water and this reflects on the underside of the bridge. Here it also illuminates the river bed through which we see an array of autumnal colours through the translucent, rippling water. It is a magical sight and I hope I have caught some of this visual excitement in this painting.
